Free Charity Event @ Child's Play

Please join us for a fun-filled day at Childs’ Play. Along with Celebrate Kids, Roos n More and Marcos Pizza, we will be hosting a charity event for Child Haven on Monday, December 20th from 11 am to 3 pm.

Everyone is invited. The admission is FREE! We are hoping for donations to help the children of Child Haven. If you would like to bring in an unused toy for one of these children in need, it would be much appreciated. Items such as cars and trucks, action figures, board games, Barbie dolls, baby dolls, puzzles and arts and craft items are all great ideas for these children at the holidays.

You may drop off a gift or you may stay and play for the day. In addition to the “open play”, we will have an entertainer from Celebrate Kids, pizza from Marco’s Pizza, and fun guests from Roos N More.

Not familiar with Roos N More? They are located in Moapa, NV and open to the public a few times each month. If you haven’t had a chance to go visit them, this is a “must” event here at Childs’ Play. Valerie Holt, the owner and veterinarian of Roos N More, has generously offered to bring a few of her furry friends to our facility for you to meet. You will learn about the animals in a hands-on environment. (They are a non-profit organization, as well. A cash donation of $3-5 per family towards their zoo would be greatly appreciated by them.)

There is no need to RSVP. Please just come and join the fun for a couple of great causes! Thank you and hope to see you at Childs’ Play at 7260 S. Cimarron Rd. Suite 100, Las Vegas NV 89113. Call us at 702-722-6041 with any questions. Thanks again...

New Zoo in Las Vegas

Entertainment options in Downtown Las Vegas could be expanding, in the form of a new zoo and some crocodile wrestling. That's according to Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman.

The project would be run by the family of the late Steve Irwin. Irwin is the famed crocodile hunter who tragically died three years ago after being hit in the chest by a stingray's barb while he was snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef.

The Irwin family runs the Australia Zoo in Queensland and met this week with Mayor Goodman about opening a similar operation in Downtown Las Vegas.

"It looks like a great project with a crocodile-type enclosure where they would wrestle with the crocodiles and feed the crocodiles and have a real educational component to it and we're going to continue those discussions," said Mayor Goodman

The zoo would be a limited zoo. It's an Australian zoo. We're not gonna have lions and tigers and giraffes and all the things that Darcy Spears would want to have an investigative report about. We're just going to have wombats and platypuses and koalas and crocodiles. I'm a big crocodile fan. I love crocodiles. So it's my kind of zoo," said Mayor Goodman

Child's Play

Child's Play has it all..a great indoor play area, parent lounge, kids hair salon, photo studio and classes galore. It's an excellent party space. The prices are very reasonable and if you just check it out you will become a member too.

I will say the management is rather rigid and not very friendly at all. If you don't buy a membership or pass you are chopped liver.

Children's Discovery Museum Update

The Lied Children's Discovery Museum just updated their first floor exhibits and added some new ones. It is worth an extra trip if you haven't been in a while, don't miss the Clifford: The Big Red dog exhibit which leaves this summer.

Music Bug opens studio in Summerlin!

I'm excited to share that the Music Bug Creative Arts Center will be opening their 2nd location in the beginning of May at Sahara & Fort Apache (next to the Little Pastry Chefs, Jollibee, and Candy Elephant). I love that they have almost every class you could want for babies, toddler and kids: dance, spanish, art, music, performing arts, tumbling and yoga.
I personally can't wait.

National Geographic voted Las Vegas as #1 for what??

As the #1 city to live and play, due to the abundance of nearby recreation oppurtunities. It seems we have the best of both for adventure and world class dining, resorts and entertainment.

What's new

The newest library is open in the Northwest, The Centennial Hills Library. It has the largest childrens collection in the city and features modern design. It is also next to the Centennial Hills Park, which won many design awards. Sounds like a fun filled day to me! The library website is showing incorrect storytime schedules so call for storytimes.

The Las Vegas Art Museum closed this year, it was located inside the Sahara West Library. With the closing of our only art museum I refuse to hear people complain about this city not having culture and arts. It takes people, visitors, true art lovers to make an art museum thrive, and the people have clearly spoken! Your'e not really that into art enough to actually go and see it! I think most people just need it to exsist to feel complete, so stop fooling yourselves that it's that important to you, and except this city for all the things that no other city has!

Avoiding the Heat

The things you can do to avoid heat are mentioned in other topics, but a seperate section to condense it all might help. Myself, I don't have an issue with the heat. My kids nap after lunch from 1pm-4pm (the hottest part of the day) But here goes.

Watch a free movie-Neonopolis, Cannery Theatres, Town Square Rave Theatres, Regal Theatres at Rainbow offer free movies in the summer (Tues & Wens 10am) City Parks, Ritz Carlton, Green Valley District, Summerlin, Lake Las Vegas, have movies and concerts in the park throughout the summer for free!
Walk the mall

Go to the Springs Preserve
Spend a day bouncing at Pump it Up
Go to one of many Storytimes
Play indoors at My Little Garden
Spend the afternoon at the Lied Childrens Discovery Museum
Go to the Natural History Museum (check out the early explorers program)
Spend a day on Mt Charleston (30degrees cooler)
Go to the Shark Reef Aquariam at Mandalay Bay
Enroll at Las Vegas Indoor Soccer for a sports class
Take swim lessons-YMCA, Water Wings, City of Las Vegas, or private lesssons
Enroll in a class or playgroup
Go for a train ride in Boulder City

Town Square

Finally the ultimate dining, shopping and play destination in this valley that belongs to all of us. Centrally located it's like our very own gaslamp district. The playground is the best in the city with it's tree house, maze and water feature. The older kids always take over the merry go round though. During Christmas they had a great parade and Easter brought on an egg hunt. Easter was a disaster, hopefully they'll figure it out better for next year. Did I mention the movie theatre and nightclub? There is too much to list, so just go already!
